Automatic bids
It is a hot button topic among sports announcers and writers. Should teams from specific conferences get automatic bids into the tournament? The Ivy League gets an automatic bid. The Patriot League gets an automatic bid... does it seem fair that certain conferences always have an automatic bid when teams with better records may make it into the tournament?

A league having an automatic bid is sometimes necessary because it keeps up the competitive nature among less talented leagues. The NFL for example, also guarantees a playoff spot for the winner of each conference division. It may not seem fair, but it is not a bad thing.
ReplyDeleteI don't know much about basketball... or anything about it. But even though they may look better on paper, the teams in "lesser" conferences are there for a reason. Being the top team in one of the lesser leagues is like... being popular on facebook. It feels good, but in reality it means absolutely nothing. The less talented leagues probably won't be able to defeat the better ones. If anything, they could have games to see if the lesser leagues could have a chance to qualify with the greater ones.
ReplyDelete. I think that everyone should have the same chances as other teams, unless you haven't won a single game all season. It's not fair to the underdogs who work their butt off all season and have a better record than some of the automatic bid teams. It should be based off of your team’s record and performances not the league you’re in. The teams who automatically make it into the tournament obviously don’t see a problem with this because they are not the teams not making into the tournament and being affected by these choices.
ReplyDeleteIt is completely and totally unfair that higher teams and ivy- league schools get an automatic bid. Just because some teams have been there for longer, or have won more things than another does not mean that they should get any type of special treatment. Every team starts in the same place, and either everybody should get an automatic bid, or nobody at all should.I t must be a perk to get an automatic bid, but it is unfair to others who do not.
ReplyDeleteIt is completely unfair to automatically be entered in as an automatic bid because half of them probably don't deserve to be there in the first place.
ReplyDeleteI think its unfair for higher teams to get automatic bids just because they have reserved their position longer. Every team should get an automatic bid or they should just not do that anymore. Its not fair that others are trying so hard and don't even get the chance to get one. They should base it off of your performance and hard work rather than what league you are in.
