Above are the links to three websites that list their all time worst sports scandals. Look over each of the lists from the links... many of them you will not have heard of before...Choose one of the scandals listed. You will need to do some research on the scandal so that you can do the next type of sports article - The Sports Column
A column is where the sportswriter gets to vent his or her opinions, and the best sports columnists do just that, fearlessly. Often that means being very tough on coaches, players or teams who don't meet expectations, particularly at the pro level, where all concerned are being paid huge salaries to do just one thing - win.
But sports columnists also focus on those they admire, whether it's an inspirational coach who leads a team of underdogs to a great season, or a mostly unheralded player who may be short on natural talent but makes up for it with hard work and unselfish play.
You are going to focus on the later - you are going to choose a scandal to write about and offer your opinions.
Here's an example of how a sports column might begin:
Professional athletes get away with murder. Literally. O.J. Simpson kills two people and gets away with it. Oscar Pistorius kills his girlfriend and can claim he thought she was a burglar. Jayson Williams kills his limo driver and is only charged with covering up the crime. Ray Lewis kills two people outside of a nightclub and is only charged with obstruction. Aaron Hernandez...well, I guess we will have to wait and see. How is it that they can literally do whatever they want while the rest of us see the letter of the law with every minor transgression?
