Welcome to Sports Reading and Writing at NHS. This is a journalism-style class in the English department that explores all aspects of sports and life. We cover our own high school sports, the Tri-Valley League, local sports, pro sports, feature articles, and biography pieces.
Each week you will be responsible for writing articles that pertain to current events in the sports world. You will create your own blog where you will be posting your work. You will also be responsible for following and commenting on the work of others in class as well.
Why reading and writing? One of the biggest problems facing students in this generation is their struggles with both of these skills. Many college athletes have risen to success without the ability to even read about their accolades. For this reason, we will not only be looking at writing articles, but reading and keeping ourselves up to date on current topics in the world of sports.
Your first tasks, on this first day of class
1) Go to blogger.com and create your own blog. Make the blog some variation of your first name/ last initial. Do not include your entire first and last name.
2) Read through the following article from CNN
http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/07/us/ncaa-athletes-reading-scores/
3) Create your first blog post on your own blog. What struck you as significant in this article? What are your overall impressions of the article? Etc. Give your first post a catchy title. Make sure it is at least 5 sentences long.
