Stupid is as Stupid doesn't

As a former college athlete, I have seen first hand examples of this athletic bias. I watched as football players failed to show up to classes; basketball players failed tests and projects and ended up passing classes regardless. As a freshman in college, I was enrolled in a Psychology class that met every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning at 8:00 am. I had to miss one class as a required travel day for Volleyball and was berated endlessly, in front of the entire class, for my absence. I could not recall a single Friday class where the Football players and Basketball players were ever present. But, they did all attend his dinner parties on Thursday nights. As a former athlete, I am still upset by the special treatment that athletes receive. College athletes should be held to the same standard as the rest of the student body. The same goes for student athletes in high school. These students should not be offered a free ride while the rest of the population pays for their education without special treatment.
